The Similan Islands is an archipelago in the Andaman Sea which are popular for diving and snorkelling destination. The Similan Islands hold a rich history that spans centuries. These picturesque islands, located in the Andaman Sea off the western coast of Thailand, have long been a sanctuary for seafarers, traders, and fishermen. The name “Similan” is derived from the Malay word “sembilan,” meaning “nine,” as the archipelago is comprised of nine main islands. While the islands have been inhabited by sea gypsies in the past, they gained significant attention in the 20th century due to their exceptional natural beauty. Recognizing the importance of preserving this unique ecosystem, the Similan Islands were designated as a national park in 1982. Please note that the Similan Islands are open for visitation during a specific period of time each year. The islands are accessible to visitors from 15th October to 15th May.
